Delegation was one of the first Black British groups to achieve a moderate level of success in the United States. They were formed by Rick Bailey, a native Jamaican, along with Len Coley and Ruddy Harris, who has since passed. Their demo recordings brought them to the attention of Ken Gold, a prominent producer in London, who arranged a contract for them with State Records 1976. Their first single, "The Promise of Love," taken from the debt album with the same name, was released shortly after, but although well received, it was their second single“Where Is The Love We Used To Know” also from the same album, which gave the group their first hit. Then came the delightful slow cut, Oh Honey which made the US charts peaking at number five. Their personnel shifts occurred when Ray Patterson and Bruce Dunbar were brought in to replace Harris and Coley. The new lineup recorded the group’s most successful album to date, “Eau De Vie” from which came no fewer than five hits including classics like You And I, Darling I think About You, Put A Little Love On Me, Heartache #9, and Stand Up Reach For The Sky, penned by Rick Bailey and Ray Patterson. That track was covered by many US artists. They remain popular in Europe and North America where the group has just finished a series of in the US this February 2012.These days Rick Bailey is still going strong, doing many gigs throughout Europe and the US. He will perform with either a band or using backing tracks. He starts work on the group’s long awaited Management: Riba Entertainment. www.ribaentertainmen.com.
